Thermal Stress: A stator blade in the turbine stage of a jet engine is heated by the combustion gases. To prevent the stator from melting, air is passed through a cooling duct in the blade. The resulting temperature gradients introduce significant stresses. Shown is the temperature distribution throughout the blade, as well as the von Mises stresses in both welds.
